Abia community places ban on sale of cooking gas in Ebem market

The Ebem Ohafia village in Ohafia LGA of Abia State has prohibited the selling of cooking gas (LPG) in the Ebem market in order to prevent fatalities and unthinkable disaster.

The prohibition was categorically declared in a statement released by the Ebem Ujurueze Palace, Ekeleugo Ebem, following the emergency meeting of the Council of Chiefs and Elders.

The communique was signed by the paramount ruler of Ebem Ohafia ancient kingdom, Ezie Ukoha Kalu Ukoha, Emeka Mba, President General of EODU, Idika Kalu Uche, Ifeanyi Okali, among others.

The community leaders, who condemned every form of cultism, gangsterism, and drug abuse, said that such acts were banned in Ebem with immediate effect.

While directing landlords whose premises are utilized for such claimed acts to either expel the offenders or face disciplinary actions, they also advised parents and guardians to exercise cautious with their children.

“Anyone found in unlawful possession of arms will be handed over to law enforcement agencies”, the Chiefs and Elders ruled.

All junk traders were also given a two-week notice to depart or risk harsh disciplinary action by the Ebem Ohafia leaders.

The leaders ascribed the prohibition to the increased allegations of vandalism and breaking into property in the neighborhood, with security reports linking it to the actions of scrap dealers and their suppliers.
