American rapper Rick Ross arrested over alleged assault of woman
American rapper Rick Ross was taken into custody in Miami Beach, Florida, on suspicion of battery in an alleged domestic violence incident and battery by strangulation.
According to Miami-Dade jail and court records, Ross, whose real name is William Leonard Roberts, was taken into custody by Miami Beach police early on Thursday and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 6:10 a.m.
According to CBS News Miami, the 50-year-old rapper is charged with one felony count of battery by strangulation and one misdemeanor count of battery, both of which are categorized as domestic violence.
The U.S. Sun cited an arrest affidavit in which a woman who had been dating Ross for approximately a year told police that the rapper got upset when he realized she was tagged in an Instagram photo.
The woman claimed that Ross accused her of being in a relationship with another man and questioned her about the picture.
She told the police that while she was in the restroom, Ross slapped her in the face and then kept questioning her.
The woman claimed in the affidavit that Ross repeatedly hit her in the chest before grabbing her hoodie collar and twisting it around her neck, choking her until she was unable to breathe.
She also claimed that Ross slammed her against a wall after grabbing her by the ponytail.
The woman also reported to police that Ross hit her in the face while she was hunched over, injuring her lip.
According to The U.S. Sun, she claimed that after pushing her to the ground, Ross turned on the shower and tried to spray her.
Bradley Horenstein, Ross' attorney, refuted the accusations made against his client and advised the public to hold off on passing judgment.
