Federal government declares holidays for Christmas, New Year celebrations
To commemorate Christmas and Boxing Day, the Federal Government has designated Thursday, December 25, and Friday, December 26, 2025, as public holidays.
Additionally, the administration announced that the New Year's celebration would take place on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
The statement was released on Monday by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Ministry of Interior's Permanent Secretary, on behalf of Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior.
The minister advised Nigerians to consider the virtues of love, peace, humility, and sacrifice connected to the birth of Jesus Christ, according to the statement.
Additionally, Tunji-Ojo urged all residents, regardless of their race or religion, to use the holiday season to pray for increased security, peace, and the advancement of the country.
In addition, he wished Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year and urged people to stay law-abiding and security-conscious throughout the festivities.
