NDLEA seizes N9.3 billion worth of Opioids in Rivers
Seven watch-listed containers containing opiates and codeine-based syrup valued at N9.3 billion were seized by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, or NDLEA, at the Port Harcourt Port Complex, PHPC, in Onne.
Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy for the NDLEA, made this announcement on Sunday in Abuja.
According to Babafemi, the NDLEA, Nigeria Custom Service, NCS, and other security organisations had placed the containers for a joint inspection.
He stated that 825,200 bottles of codeine-based syrup and tramadol with a street value of N5.8 billion were recovered during the inspections, which took place between Wednesday, May 28 and Friday, May 30.
Additionally, he reported that 5.1 million opioid pills, namely 225 mg of tapentadol, valued at N3.5 billion had been found.
“This brings the combined street value of the opioids to N9.3 billion, “he said.
