Ogun state vehicle accident leaves 11 people dead

Eleven people lost their life in a terrible single tragedy when a car fell off the Eruku Bridge on the Abeokuta-Lagos highway in Ogun State.

The deadly collision happened on Saturday night, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps' (FRSC) Ogun State Sector Command.

The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, stated in a statement released by the command's Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Route Commander Odunsi Afolabi, that the Itori Unit Command's FRSC rescue squad arrived at the scene quickly after learning of the accident.

A gold Toyota with registration number GGE722KJ was involved in the single collision. According to reports, the car somersaulted and tumbled off the bridge, locking everyone inside when the doors locked upon impact.

“All 11 people on board, comprising 10 adult males and one adult female, lost their lives in the crash,” the statement said.

In order to collect the victims' remains, FRSC authorities disassembled portions of the car with the help of locals.

The State Specialist Hospital Morgue in Ifo received the deceased after they were evacuated.

Overloading was determined to be the most likely cause of the late-night accident by the FRSC's preliminary investigations.

Ogunjobi responded to the tragedy by advising drivers on the Abeokuta-Lagos expressway to drive carefully, especially at night.

He also sent his sympathies to the victims' families.
