Pastor, one other arrested for raising false bandits invasion alarm in Ibadan
The Oyo State Police Command reported that it had detained at least two individuals in relation to a false alarm over a potential bandit invasion of a community.
Mulikat Bashiru and Amos Joel Muyiwa, a clergyman, are among the suspects.
Olayinka Ayanlade, the command's public relations officer, signed a statement announcing this.
The two suspects are presently being held by the police, according to Ayanlade's statement.
He claimed that the suspects purposefully mislead the public.
According to Ayanlade, the suspects purposefully spread misleading information claiming that Lamini Community had been overrun by bandits.
The community is a part of the state's Ido Local Government Area.
He claimed that as soon as the command received the information, patrol and tactical teams were dispatched to the community.
He continued by saying that it was found that the alleged bandit invasion and six people's deaths never took place.
He said, “The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that it has arrested two suspects in connection with the deliberate dissemination of false information alleging that bandits invaded Lamini Community in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State and killed six persons.
The incriminating voice note was linked to Pastor Amos Joel Muyiwa, who was arrested as a result of the subsequent intelligence-driven inquiry, which was bolstered by forensic examination.
“Further investigations revealed that the false alarm originated from one Mulikat Bashiru, who had raised the unfounded claim within the community. She was thereafter identified, traced, and arrested in connection with the matter.”
