Professor Chris Piwuna emerges as ASUU's new president

Prof. Chris Piwuna, a consultant psychiatrist at the University of Jos Teaching Hospital, has been chosen to serve as the next president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

Victor Osodeke, a professor of soil science at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture in Umudike, Abia State, is replaced by Piwuna, who is also the dean of student affairs at the University of Jos.

The decision was made at the Union's 23rd National Delegates Congress, which was held on Sunday in Benin.

According to confirmed sources with knowledge of the situation, Piwuna and Prof. Adamu Babayo of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi contested the election.

Following concerns about the Earned Academic Allowances sharing formula recently disclosed by the Federal Government of Nigeria, brain drain, and other issues, Piwuna took office amid widespread rumours of industrial action.
