13 arrested in Anambra as police, vigilance operatives act on crimes
Thirteen suspects have been detained by police officers in separate joint operations with the Anambra state vigilance group due to their alleged involvement in multiple criminal offenses.
In a statement released in Awka on Tuesday, Anambra Police Command spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga revealed that during the operations, the security personnel also found firearms, ammunition, charms, cult-related insignias, suspected illegal drugs, dangerous weapons, and a stolen vehicle.
He claimed that the suspects were apprehended in various operations throughout the state.
"On September 30, police operatives of Okpoko Division, acting on credible intelligence, raided a suspected criminal hideout around Coca-Cola Market, Okpoko, and arrested Somtochukwu Ezeibe, a 20-year-old male," the statement said in part.
He added that one locally manufactured double-barrel pistol, one live round, and charms were taken from the suspect by the agents.
A Vikings fraternity beret and peak cap were found during a follow-up search at the suspect's home, according to the police spokesperson.
He added that an initial investigation had shown that he was allegedly involved in cult-related activities.
