30 students, teacher hospitalised following gas leak in Ogun school
Following a gas leak at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, at least thirty kids and one teacher were admitted to the hospital.
The event, which happened soon after Wednesday's school assembly, reportedly created panic as a gaseous material spread throughout the building, making it difficult for staff and pupils to breathe.
According to sources, a number of pupils passed out after breathing in the drug, necessitating an emergency reaction.
The teacher and the impacted pupils were taken right away to the General Hospital in Ijebu Ode for medical attention.
Some sources first hypothesized that a nearby gas explosion would have caused the incident, while others connected it to a chemical odor from the school laboratory during a practical session.
It was said that during the practice, a piece of equipment might have dropped, releasing a material that dispersed throughout the school.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Mrs. Adeola Borogun, the junior school's vice principal, denied allegations of an explosion, characterizing the event as an odd chemical odor on the property.
According to her, the circumstance caused children to throw up and pass out, necessitating an ambulance call from the school.
Ola Oresanya, the Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, ruled out the likelihood of an explosion or industrial contamination while characterizing the incident as a gas leak.
