On Thursday, a 45,000-liter petrol tanker spilt its contents on the road after overturning at Isimi Lagos, near Itokin, Epe, Lagos State. 

The incident happened after the tanker, registered as T-18212LA, collided with a Ford pickup truck, registered as KJA-13FJ, that was carrying animal feed, according to a statement from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, or LASEMA. 

After receiving a distress call at 10:19 a.m., the agency claimed that its Epe-based LRT Beta Whales Team was activated and sent to the scene right away. 

The truck was trying to navigate past the stationary Ford pickup van that had experienced a mechanical defect along the highway when one of its rear tires dropped into a pit, according to the LASEMA's preliminary findings.

The extremely combustible contents of the tanker spilt over the road after it spilt and crashed onto the pickup vehicle.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, LNSC, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, and the Nigeria Police Force collaborated with LASEMA after the incident by activating its multi-agency incident management protocol.

To stop a follow-up occurrence, the emergency personnel guarded the area, implemented safety procedures, and implemented traffic control and diversion measures.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service doused the overturned truck and its immediate surrounds with chemical foam to lessen the chance of a fire breaking out.
