80 abducted Kaduna worshippers reunites with family after escaping

At least 80 worshippers who survived kidnapping during a bandit attack on the community in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State have returned to their homes after spending almost two weeks in other communities, according to Ishaku Dan'azumi, the village head of Kurmin Wali.

On Sunday, Dan'azumi revealed this, stating that some of the kidnapped worshippers managed to flee and sought safety in neighboring settlements.

According to him, although preliminary reports indicated that approximately 177 worshippers were kidnapped during the raid, more research showed that 80 of them were able to flee and hide in nearby areas. He did point out that the bandits were still holding 86 worshippers captive.

“Some people are trying to politicise our situation even as families are going through serious trauma,” Dan’azumi said.

“We are appealing to the government and the military to expedite action to secure the safe return of the remaining 86 people still in the bandits’ camp.”

The return of the displaced worshippers was due, according to a military source who spoke on condition of anonymity, to ongoing security operations that targeted bandits' hiding places around Kajuru and nearby woodland corridors.

Meanwhile, specifics concerning how the 80 worshippers escaped, as well as the exact situations of those still in custody, remained unclear.
