Abducted Anambra NDLEA director regains freedom after 10 days in kidnappers' den
The release of Mr. Daniel Onyishi, the State Director of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, or NDLEA, has been confirmed by Anambra State police.
According to reports, Onyishi was abducted early on June 12, a public holiday commemorating Democracy Day, along Oby Okoli Road in Anambra, close to Winner Chapel.
The state police commissioner, CP Ikioye Orutugu, approved the director's release, according to a press release issued by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, public relations officer for the Anambra State Police Commands.
According to Ikenga, police coordinated the rescue attempts that enabled the victim's safe return in cooperation with sister agencies, particularly the NDLEA operatives under the command of Mrs. Florence Ezeonye, the NDLEA's Zone 12 Commander.
Part of the release read: “The Anambra State Police Command today 22nd June 2025 confirmed the release of the abducted NDLEA Anambra State Director, Mr. Daniel Onyishi.
“It would be recalled that the victim was abducted in the early hours of 12th June 2025 along Winner Road, Awka. He is currently in safe custody and receiving medical attention.
“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu has briefed the Police High Command on the development and activated the IGP’s directive to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.”
