Abducted Edo doctor regains freedom after payment of N50m ransom

Dr. Tahir Abu, a doctor who was abducted in Auchi, Edo State, and whose brother was killed by abductors, has been liberated after his family paid a N50 million ransom.

On January 2, he and his younger brother were abducted from their home on City Pride Road in Auchi's Igbira Camp.

According to the victim's father, the ransom was paid in two installments of N20 million and N30 million before his son was freed on Wednesday at around eight in the morning.

He claimed that raising the ransom for his son's release required the family's efforts as well as contributions from friends, non-governmental organizations, and others.

He said, “My son has been released by the kidnappers after we paid N50 million. I feel good that he has been released but I also lost another son.

“The family, organisations, friends and well-wishers contributed the N50 million ransom. My son was brushed by a bullet but he is receiving treatment at a hospital.”

Eno Ikoedem, the PPRO for the Edo State Police Command, verified the victim's release on Thursday.
