Abducted Kebbi deputy speaker Samaila Bagudo regains freedom

Muhammad Samaila Bagudo, the deputy speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, has been liberated after being kidnapped by gunmen thought to be Lakurawa militants.

Ahmed Idris, the governor of Kebbi State's chief press secretary, verified the news late on Saturday night over the phone, stating that the lawmaker had been freed and reunited with his family.  Shortly after attending Isha'i prayers,

Bagudo was abducted on Thursday night, October 31, 2025, at approximately 8:20 p.m. in his hometown of Bagudo, the Bagudo Local Government Area headquarters.

Residents apparently became tense when the attackers, armed with sophisticated weaponry, attacked the village, abducted the 60-year-old lawmaker, and transported him to an unidentified place.

Following the kidnapping, a huge manhunt was initiated by the Kebbi State Police Command in cooperation with military men and vigilante groups.
