Abia community places ban on drugs, cultism

Hard drug use, cultism, violence, and other illegal activities are prohibited in the Ebem Ohafia Community in Ohafia Local Government Area, Abia State.

The Ebem Council of Chiefs and Elders fully supported the ban, which was declared by the Ebem Ohafia Youths in cooperation with the Ebem Ohafia Development Union's Central Executive Council.

The Ebem Ohafia Community's Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ifeanyi Okali, released a statement on Tuesday that included the new security orders, which are intended to bring peace and order back to the community.

Additionally, the community forbade the sale, use, and trafficking of hard narcotics and other illegal substances in Ebem Ohafia, threatening to punish anyone found guilty—regardless of status—with severe penalties and disciplinary actions.

The statement read, “The community has also issued a final warning on cultism, directing all persons involved to renounce such activities or face severe community sanctions and prosecution.

“All criminal elements using Ebem Ohafia as a hideout are ordered to vacate the community immediately. Any indigene found harbouring such individuals will be held accountable.

“Furthermore, fighting with weapons, brandishing of firearms and gunshots are strictly prohibited. Any offender will be handed over to security agencies, face heavy fines and risk additional community sanctions.”

The community also decided that Ndi Ikwu (compounds) will be held accountable for defaulters inside its borders, including suspension from holding ceremonies if needed.
