Abia's family disapproves monarch's burial without autopsy
A purported proposal to bury Eze Samuel Ajiri, the traditional ruler of Ntalakwu-Oboro in Ikwuano, Abia State, without an autopsy or the complete approval of his immediate family and traditional council has been opposed by family and community stakeholders.
The family requested an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the monarch's death and the arrangements for his funeral in a petition submitted to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) by Mr. Joseph Igwe, Head of Chambers, M. O. Ubani SAN & Co.
On behalf of Prince Dike Ajiri, the monarch's first son and heir apparent, the petition brought up concerns about the monarch's death being announced too late and the necessity of an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.
The petition, filed on June 9, 2025, states that Eze Ajiri passed away in September 2024 while living in Port Harcourt with his second wife, Chinwe Ajiri.
The petitioner raised concerns regarding the delay and related details, pointing out that family members were formally informed in January 2025.
Prince Ajiri further claimed that there are discrepancies in the papers pertaining to the monarch's passing, stating that a death certificate issued in December 2024 is in conflict with other documents, such as a mortuary tag purportedly stating a date of September 2024.
