Adamawa police nabs 57 suspects in 'Shilla' gang crackdown
In an ongoing campaign against Shilla gangsterism, drug addiction, public nuisance, and other criminal activity throughout the state, the Adamawa State Police Command has detained 57 people.
Kabiru Umar Hassan, the Commissioner of Police, oversaw the operation.
Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the command's spokeswoman, stated in a statement that the accused had been charged.
He claims that the arrests were made as part of a planned operation that targeted black spots and known criminal hideouts in the Jimeta and Yola metropolitan areas
“The operation, which was carried out by Divisional Police Officers under the supervision of their Area Commanders, yielded positive results with the arrest of 57 suspects for offences bordering on Shilla-related activities, public nuisance, possession of dangerous weapons and involvement with prohibited substances,” the statement said..
The police spokeswoman revealed that during the exercise, agents found suspected illegal substances and a variety of dangerous weapons on the suspects.
All of the seized exhibits, he continued, had been documented and would be presented as evidence in court.
According to Nguroje, the suspects were charged in court in compliance with the law, and more investigations and profiling were underway to ascertain whether they were involved in any other illegal activity.
The Commissioner of Police assured the public that the command was dedicated to breaking up criminal gangs and preserving peace throughout the state while praising the officers who took part in the operation for their professionalism and commitment.
