Amotekun rescues abducted victim, arrest four suspects
In Oba-Ile, Akoko, in the state's Akoko South West Local Government Area, the Ondo State Security Network Agency, nicknamed Amotekun, reports that it has freed a kidnap victim and detained a father and his three sons.
On Tuesday in Akure, Amotekun Corps Commander Mr. Adetunji Adeleye made the revelation while parading 15 suspects for criminal offenses and 28 suspects for kidnapping-related charges.
“Today, we have Usman, 33; Wahab, 27; Yakubu, 18; and their father, Iliasu, 56, arrested in Oba Akoko, Ondo State.
“Not only that, we equally recovered drugs, drinks, cigarettes and what looked like a camouflage used to cover the eyes of the kidnapped victim,” he said.
Adeleye clarified that after the victim's family informed the command about the occurrence, the suspects were taken into custody.
The victim was abducted while traveling to Oba Akoko, according to the Amotekun commander, who clarified that the family set up the ransom without telling Amotekun.
“In spite of the ransom payment, the kidnappers refused to release the victim. They also threatened the family not to report the incident.
“This eventually brought the family to the Amotekun office, and we immediately swung into action. ?
“At the end of the day, we found a family, a father and three sons directly involved, using cattle as cover.
“In the course of the operation, they (kidnappers) attacked our men, but we succeeded in rescuing the victim,” he said.
Adeleye added that while the victim was being taken to a neighboring hospital, the abductors abused him with knives and cutlasses.
He claims that more than 75% of the ransom was collected by Amotekun staff.
