Anambra police command decorates 89 promoted officers

To mark their entry into the Nigeria Police Force's Officer Cadre, the Anambra State Police Command inducted 89 recently promoted inspectors into the officers' mess and decorated them to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police.  

The occasion, which took place at the Command's headquarters in Awka and was attended by senior officers, family members, and well-wishers, was a major turning point in the officers' careers.  

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the state command spokesperson, said in a news release on Thursday that DCP Mantu Chong, the deputy commissioner of police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, was representing the state's commissioner of police, CP Ikioye Orutugu.

According to Ikenga, the CP asked the recently promoted officers to continue serving as role models for their peers and to strengthen their partnerships with local communities in order to combat crime and maintain peace in Anambra State.

The statement read in part, “The Anambra State Police Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has decorated 89 newly-promoted Inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police in a colourful ceremony held at the Command Headquarters, Awka.

“The event, which was attended by senior officers of the Command, family members, and well-wishers, marked a significant milestone in the careers of the officers. In addition to their decoration, the officers were officially inducted into the Police Officers’ Mess, symbolising their transition into the Officer Cadre of the Nigeria Police Force.

“The CP represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, DCP Mantu Chong mni, congratulated the newly promoted officers and charged them to see their elevation as both a reward for hard work and a call to greater responsibility.”

The CP reminded them that promotion carries greater expectations and that professionalism, discipline, and a dedication to life and property protection are necessary for leadership in the Nigeria Police Force.  

He reminded the officers that the promotions were authorized by IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, in appreciation of their commitment and sacrifice.
