Armed thugs kill 60-year-old man in Osun
Tajudeen Yusuf, 60, was shot and died in Osogbo, Osun State's Ita-Olokan neighbourhood. The incident happened on Wednesday at around 4:00 p.m.
In a statement released on Thursday, Osun State Police Command spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi verified the event. According to the preliminary investigation, Yusuf, a resident of Osogbo's Oke-Ayepe neighbourhood, was allegedly shot by suspected thugs soon after a fight involving members of musician David Adeleke's security team, also known as Davido.
Governor Ademola Adeleke had previously paid a visit to Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, the Ataoja of Osogbo, in his palace with his nephew Davido.
According to police information, Adebayo Taoreed, also known as "Small Rugged," an ex-convict and suspected gang member, tried to enter Davido right after the visit but was thwarted by members of the musician's security team.
Other suspected gang members in the area are said to have been drawn to the ensuing altercation, temporarily blocking the palace's entrance and impeding the convoy's progress.
The suspected gang members allegedly shot Yusuf at Ita-Olokan while they were leaving the area, according to the police.
The police claimed that as soon as they learned about the incident, they sent a patrol squad to the location.
Yusuf was reportedly discovered laying in a pool of blood and taken to the University Teaching Hospital in Osogbo to receive medical care. However, the medics on duty declared him dead.
The Command stated that efforts to locate, capture, and punish the escaping individuals were still underway.
