Army detains 16 officers for alleged misconduct
16 officers were reportedly detained by the Nigerian Armed Forces on Saturday for alleged insubordination and violations of service rules.
According to the military, investigations revealed that the officers' complaints were related to perceived career stagnation and repeated failures on promotion exams.
Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defense Information, said in a statement that their actions were "incompatible with military standards." He mentioned that some of the cops were either pending trial or had been under jurisdiction for a variety of offenses.
Gusau said, “The Armed Forces of Nigeria wishes to inform the public that a routine military exercise has resulted in the arrest of sixteen officers over issues of indiscipline and breach of service regulations. Investigations have revealed that their grievances stemmed largely from perceived career stagnation caused by repeated failure in promotion examinations, among other issues.
“Some of the apprehended officers had been under jurisdiction for various offences, either awaiting or undergoing trial. Their conduct was deemed incompatible with the standards of military service.”
In accordance with established protocols, he said, those indicted at the conclusion of the investigation will be subject to the military disciplinary process.
