Army man dies after wife sets him on fire in Akwa Ibom
Lt. Haruna, the Regimental Medical Officer of the 6 Battalion, reportedly got into a furious fight with his wife that turned into a horrifying act of violence.
According to reports, a domestic violence incident claimed the life of Lieutenant Samson Haruna, an officer in the Nigerian Army.
Security analyst and counter-insurgency specialist Zagazola Makama said Tuesday that Haruna, a doctor, died from serious burns when his wife allegedly lit him on fire following a domestic argument at Wellington Bassey Barracks in Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
According to a post Makama made on his X account, the incident happened on September 22, 2025. Lt. Haruna, the Regimental Medical Officer of the 6 Battalion, reportedly got into a furious fight with his wife that turned into a horrifying act of violence.
"The officer had a heated argument with his wife, Mrs. Samson Haruna, which resulted in her dousing him with petrol (PMS) and setting him on fire," according to a source.
According to the report, Lt. Haruna passed away from his wounds in spite of receiving prompt medical attention at the barracks' Military Reference Section and then at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.
"The officer sustained severe burns and was immediately stabilized at the Military Reference Section (MRS) in the barracks before being evacuated to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for further management," the source was quoted to have added.
The report states that the suspect has been taken into custody and is presently being investigated.
