Following a ten-day combined search and rescue operation in Enugu State, Nigerian Army troops have freed a civilian, Mr. Ikechukwu Onwuanra, and a kidnapped senior military officer, Lt. Col. Ofor Amobi.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) was given access to a military operations report on Saturday in Abuja that included this information.

According to the military, after persistent pressure on their kidnappers, the victims were freed in the early hours of Friday.

According to the military, the operation was carried out by soldiers from Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA, which included members of the 82 Division Garrison, 103 Battalion (Reinforced), the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service, and the 197 Special Forces Battalion.

It stated that in the Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State, the forces under the command of the Commander, 82 Division Garrison, carried out extensive searches in the settlements and woodlands of Inyi, Awlaw, and Akpugo-Eze.

The report states that at around 2:00 a.m. on Friday, the Divisional Police Officer of Inyi Division provided troops with information regarding the victims' whereabouts.

The dead were discovered abandoned at the edge of a woodland near Inyi, and the forces immediately began a fighting patrol there, according to the report.

According to the military, both victims were saved from gunshot wounds and taken to the 82 Division Medical Hospital for medical attention and assessment.

The victims were blindfolded, taken to an unidentified location, and then abandoned in a forest near the Enugu-Anambra border, according to preliminary questioning.

According to the report, "the victims attributed their rescue to the joint troops' persistent pressure, which denied the kidnappers freedom of movement and forced them to abandon their captives."
