ASSU, FUOYE chapter begins indefinite strike over unpaid salaries
Due to unpaid salaries, the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, or ASUU, has gone on indefinite strike.
A formal letter was sent to Prof. Olubunmi Shittu, the institution's acting vice-chancellor, on Thursday to inform him of the situation.
The letter, which was jointly signed by Mr. Ngwu Benitho, the financial secretary, and Dr. O. A. Fagbuagun, the branch chairman, said that the industrial action would continue until the impacted lecturers were paid their unpaid salaries.
The branch leadership claims that the action complies with the ASUU national body's direction.
The statement read: “The National Executive Council of ASUU has resolved that where academic staff salaries are not paid by the third day of a new month, the branch concerned must suspend academic activities until payment is made.
“In compliance with this directive, ASUU-FUOYE has proceeded on strike. The action is total, comprehensive, and indefinite, and will only be suspended upon payment of salaries.”
