ASUU threatens to shut down all Nigerian universities on Friday

All Nigerian public universities will be permanently closed starting on Friday, according to plans made by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, or ASUU.

On Tuesday, the union revealed this in a brief message posted on its official X account.

If the Federal Government does not fulfill all of its demands—such as equitable compensation and better working conditions for lecturers—to stop the continuous migration of academic talent from Nigerian universities, the decision will be put into effect.

“All universities will be closed nationwide till further notice on Friday,” the union wrote on X.

According to the DAILY POST, ASUU turned down the Federal Government's proposal for a 35% wage.

Remember that in order to renegotiate the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement and to address other unresolved concerns affecting the university system, ASUU paused its two-week warning strike in October.
