Aviation unions suspend planned strike

Following developments in talks with the federal government, four aviation unions have called off their scheduled strike over inadequate pay.

The Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE), the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), and the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) had previously sent out notices to cease operations on Monday.

The decision to halt the action was made following the intervention of senior ministry officials and the Minister of Aviation, as well as the publication of a "no objection" letter from the Budget Office to the National Incomes, Salaries and Wages Commission, they stated in a joint statement.

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) promised that the increased compensation package will be paid with August paychecks, which they also cited.

The unions encouraged members to maintain optimism while the situation develops and announced that the walkout would be postponed until the end of the month, pending more developments.
