Bandits attack Katsina community, kill 24 people
In separate raids on the settlements of Jikamshi and Gwalgoro in the local government areas of Musawa and Kankia in Katsina State, respectively, bandits have killed at least twenty-four persons.
The most recent incidence happened at Jikamshi market on Monday night, when seven individuals were shot and killed while vendors were shutting for the day. During a gunfight with bandits that were terrorizing the Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State, the military killed forty-five militants.
About fifteen armed men on motorcycles stormed the market, opened fire, and stole merchandise valued at millions of naira, according to witnesses.
The victims were buried in accordance with Islamic customs, according to a local and head of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Musawa LGA.
He urged for immediate action from the authorities and described the attack as terrible.
“The scale of the attack is enormous. We believe in the efforts of the state government, but the situation is beyond its control. There must be moral, financial and military support from the federal government,” he said.
Tukur Aliyu, who had just returned from attending his daughter's wedding in Lagos, was one among those slain. According to family reports, he left behind multiple dependents, three spouses, and roughly twenty children.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, one of his wives bemoaned the family's uncertain future.
“Our lives are in danger now. He was our breadwinner, struggling to keep the family going. Now he is gone, we don’t know how we will survive,” she said.
