Early on Monday, June 1, 2026, the Ayegunle Bunu hamlet in Kogi State's Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area was in a state of fear due to a bandit attack that resulted in the death of one person and the kidnapping of over thirty others.

Preliminary indications indicate that the attack happened around 2:25 a.m. According to reports, one person was killed and another was injured during the event.

Two residents of Ayegunle Bunu, a man and a woman, were among those kidnapped, according to community sources.

Naziru Kankarofi, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, confirmed the incident while speaking to reporters outside the Command Headquarters in Lokoja during the Passing-Out Parade of 565 newly trained police constables.
