Bandits attack palace in Kwara community, abduct 10
The Yashikira community in Baruten Local Government Area was the target of a coordinated midnight attack by suspected armed bandits, according to the Kwara State Police Command. The attackers set fire to a portion of the Emir's palace and kidnapped ten people, including the wives and children of the traditional ruler, Alhaji Umar Seriki.
The terrorists launched a simultaneous assault on the Emir's palace and the Yashikira Police Divisional Headquarters at around two in the morning on Monday, according to the Command, which described it as a "coordinated and desperate operation."
Ten people were kidnapped as a result of the attack, but security personnel were able to repel the assault on the police station, according to a statement released by Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer.
“The Kwara State Police Command condemns in the strongest possible terms the cowardly and audacious attack carried out by suspected bandits in the early hours of today, 25/5/26, in Yashikira, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
“The armed criminals, in a coordinated and desperate assault at about 0200hrs, simultaneously attacked the Yashikira Police Divisional Headquarters and the Palace of the Emir of Yashikira,” the statement read.
It further stated that "during the attack, part of the palace was set ablaze, while ten people were abducted and taken to an unknown destination," adding that on-duty officers withstood the attack on the police station.
In order to save the victims and find the attackers, Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi launched a full-scale tactical operation involving the military, police, forest guards, vigilantes, and other security partners.
