Bandits kill three on Sokoto road

A car carrying commuters along the Marnona-Isa Road in Sokoto State was attacked by suspected bandits, who killed the driver and two passengers.

The attack happened on Wednesday nite at Kunawa village in Goronyo Local Government Area. According to reports, the attackers stopped a car heading from Sokoto metropolis to Isa Local Government Area and started shooting at the people inside.

DSP Ahmed Rufai, the spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, verified the incident.

"A driver and two others were killed by bandits at Kunawa village, Goronyo Local Government Area, along the Marnona-Isa Road,” Rufai said.

At the time this report was filed, the deceased's identities had not yet been made public. Additionally, neither the number of attackers nor any arrests made in relation to the attack were disclosed by the police spokesperson.

Some passengers on the route may have been among the 3,000 individuals allegedly recruited by the Sokoto State Government and invited for additional screening and document collection, according to unverified reports.

Nevertheless, there was no formal proof that any of the victims were members of the group.

Concerns about the safety of drivers and passengers traveling between Sokoto metropolis and other regions of the state have increased as a result of the killings, especially on routes that pass through remote communities.
