Bayelsa police nabs judge's abductors, honour officer for rejecting $17,000 bribe

The kidnappers of Justice Ebiyerin Umukoro of the Bayelsa State High Court have been apprehended by Bayelsa Police Command agents.

It was discovered that the gang boss was the target of a manhunt.  After being abducted in Yenagoa on June 21, Justice Omukoro was detained for 12 days before security personnel came to his aid.

In a statement released by his chief press secretary, Daniel Alabrah, Governor Duoye Diri claimed that all of the participants in the kidnapping had been apprehended by the police, with the exception of the gang leader who was still at large.

The governor also recognized Sentome Obi, a police superintendent who turned down a $17,000 bribe from a suspect in organ harvesting.

Emphasizing his administration's zero-tolerance attitude for crime and criminality, he reiterated his warning to criminals to avoid Bayelsa.

He claimed that in addition to installing CCTV cameras throughout the state capital, the government had enhanced security architecture by acquiring drones to help police combat crime.

His words: “We have greatly improved our crime fighting efforts using technology. In the recent kidnap of a serving judge in the state, we were able to get him released unhurt.

“We summoned the security agencies and gave them the necessary logistics. At the end of the day, all those who committed the crime were apprehended except one that is still on the run. Bayelsa State has zero tolerance to crime and criminality.”
