Benue gov Alia dissolves cabinet, sacks all commissioners, Chief of Staff

The state executive council has been abolished by Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, leaving just the position of Chief of Staff, which will now be held by Barr. Moses Atagher, a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

At the conclusion of the 12th executive council meeting of 2025, Atagher, a seasoned administrator and former acting managing director of the Federal Mortgage Bank, was named the new Chief of Staff with immediate effect.

Terso Kula, the governor's chief press secretary, said that the breakup solely impacts the commissioners.

In addition to thanking the departing commissioners for their two years of service, Governor Alia urged those who might not be reappointed to stay in the party and support the administration.

Barr. Bemsen Mnyim thanked the governor for the chance to serve on behalf of the dissolved commissioners, characterizing the event as a learning lesson.

The former commissioners have been instructed to turn over their responsibilities to the ministry's permanent secretaries.
