Just hours after the Federal Capital Territory Administration's (FCTA) Development Control Department sealed the property and ordered its tenants to leave, a building in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, fell. 

The building's inhabitants received a quit notice earlier on Monday from the FCTA's department of development control, according to information obtained by The Nation, when the building began to exhibit signs of concern.

At approximately 7:45 p.m. on Monday, the FCT Police Command reportedly got a distress call on the event.

A police reaction team was sent to the area right once, according to a statement from Josephine Adeh, the command's spokesperson.

In a same vein, Lere Olayinka, the media assistant to FCT minister Nyesom Wike, who gave an update on the building collapse, stated that a rescue effort was in progress at the location.

Employees from the National Emergency Management Agency, Federal Road Safety Corps, Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, Federal Fire Service, Security Service Department, Federal Capital Territory Administration, and other pertinent emergency agencies joined the team, according to Adeh.

According to Adeh, initial research revealed that the Department of Development Control had already tagged and shuttered the structure.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the building has earlier been marked and sealed by the Department of Development Control, Abuja,” Adeh said.

As search efforts proceeded to ascertain whether anyone was trapped beneath the debris, she stated, no casualties had been confirmed as of the time of the release.
