Court orders actress Doris Ogala remanded over cyberstalking of Lagos pastor
Actress Doris Ogala was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Center on Wednesday by a Federal High Court in Lagos while her bail application regarding alleged cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and attempted extortion of Pastor Chris Okafor was heard.
The Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation arraigned Ogala before Judge Akintayo Aluko on three counts pertaining to threats against the cleric, the publication of private photos, and the distribution of purportedly fraudulent electronic messages.
Tolulope Mokolu, the prosecution's attorney, informed the court that the defendant committed the crimes between September 2024 and March 2026.
Ogala allegedly posted intimate and nude photos of Okafor on her social media accounts without getting his permission, according to Mokolu.
The prosecution further claimed that the images were subsequently shared on social media blogs and platforms and that the publication had the potential to cause annoyance, embarrassment, emotional distress, and harm to the cleric's reputation.
In order to bully, threaten, intimidate, and harass Okafor, he accused Ogala of purposefully publishing and distributing videos, recordings, and electronic messages that contained information she allegedly knew to be false.
The prosecutor informed the court that the defendant had allegedly sent electronic messages threatening to keep publishing intimate and frightening content about the cleric unless he paid her money or bought her a home.
According to Mokolu, she allegedly made the threats with the goal of harming Okafor's reputation and subjecting him to public criticism and mockery.
The prosecutor claimed that the offenses violated Sections 24(1)(a), 24(2)(a), and 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024.
But when the charges were read to her, she entered a not guilty plea.
