Court sentences native doctor to 12 years imprisonment in Anambra
Detained local physician Chidozie Nwangwu, also known as Akwaokuko Tiwara Aki, was given a 12-year prison sentence by an Anambra State High Court in Awka.
Nwangwu was found guilty on counts 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 by the presiding court, Justice Jude Obiora, who sentenced him to two years in prison for each count. However, counts 1, 2, 9, and 10 were rejected by the court. The sentences will be served simultaneously, according to Justice Obiora's ruling.
He pointed out that Nwangwu would only be detained for 11 months in the Nigerian Correctional Service facility in Awka because he had already spent 13 months there at the Agunechemba facility.
Nwangwu's contentious temple in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, is to be totally demolished in accordance with the ruling, and the process will be captured on camera.
In order to rectify the perception he gave young people about obtaining income through illicit means, the court additionally mandated that he sign a pledge not to participate in okite activities in the future and, upon completion of his term, serve as a youth ambassador.
He was also instructed to notify the public on all of his social media channels that he no longer practices okite.
