Doctor passes away after giving birth to triplets in Bayelsa
After giving birth to triplets in Bayelsa State, a doctor named Dr. Ere Ogbachi passed away due to complications.
Meshack Sintei, the deceased's brother, confirmed the death in a Facebook post on Wednesday. He said that after being taken to the Federal Medical Center's Intensive Care Unit in Yenagoa, she passed away at around 2:45 a.m. on April 14, 2026.
The family statement claims that immediately after she gave birth safely, difficulties arose, necessitating an urgent transfer to intensive care.
“She successfully gave birth to triplets at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital in Okolobiri… complications arose that eventually forced us to rush her to the Intensive Care Unit in FMC Yenagoa,” the statement said.
The family described the last moments, stating that while medical staff tried to save her life in the intensive care unit, her condition quickly declined.
“We watched her struggling to live, we watched her gasping for breath, we watched how the team of doctors and other experts in FMC kept trying their best to revive her,” it stated.
The statement added that her oxygen saturation levels reportedly dropped sharply during the emergency response. “The SpO2 machine in the ICU began reading downwards from 70 to 50 and then to 0,” it said.
