DSS apprehends Maina's son, Faisal, in Abuja
Faisal Abdulrasheed Maina, the fugitive son of Abdulrasheed Maina, the former chairman of the now-defunct Pension Reform Task Team, has been taken into custody by the Department of State Services (DSS). Additionally, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has received him from the agency.
According to security sources, DSS agents tracked down and captured Faisal, who has been at large since 2020, in Abuja's Karsana neighborhood.
“His arrest followed credible intelligence which indicated that Faisal had secretly returned to the country”, a source revealed.
Recall that Faisal was charged with three counts of conspiracy and money laundering by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). After that, he broke the terms of his bail and fled the nation.
In his absence, the trial proceeded, and in 2021, Justice Okon Abang found him guilty and sentenced him to 14 years in prison.
Faisal was to be apprehended wherever he might be in Nigeria and placed under remand in a correctional facility to serve his sentence, according to the court's order.
It also mandated that the Federal Government take legal action to secure his extradition to fulfilll his prison sentence if he was discovered outside the nation.
