DSS arrests suspected ISWAP fighters in Lagos
Two suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have been detained by security personnel in Lagos, sparking new worries about the extremist group's purported plans to spread outside of northeastern Nigeria.
According to information cited by Premium Times, the suspects, known as Modu Gana and Ibrahim Dugge, were captured on Sunday morning by Department of State Services (DSS) agents in Lagos' Apapa neighborhood.
Around 8:45 a.m., according to a security source with firsthand knowledge of the operation, the arrests were made in response to actionable intelligence.
Since then, the suspects have been arrested and are being questioned. The source stated that investigations were underway to ascertain the suspects' whereabouts, contacts, and potential objectives within the state. "The arrest was intelligence-led."
