Edo police nab suspected cult leader, recover weapons

Itua Odion, a 22-year-old accused leader of the Neo Black Movement (NBM) in the Edo Central Senatorial District, has been taken into custody by Edo State Police Command agents.

In a statement provided to reporters in Benin City on Friday, Moses Yamu, the Command's Public Relations Officer, revealed this.  Since June 26, 2025, 15 other alleged cultists have been taken into custody throughout the state, Yamu continued.

He claimed that Odion admitted to being the Movement's Esan Area Zonal Leader in Edo Central, the region from which Monday Okpebholo, the state governor, was from.

Remember how Okpebholo destroyed a number of buildings thought to be used for state criminal activity during his fight against cultism and kidnapping?

The NBM national headquarters in Benin City was one of the structures destroyed.  More than 100 individuals have also been taken into custody by the Edo State Police Command, while numerous more have been charged.

According to the police spokesperson, agents from the Ekpoma Area Command located and detained the suspect on June 28, 2025, at a hotel in Ekpoma.

He stated that a fake revolver with two live cartridges was found during an instant check of the suspect's automobile, an unregistered Ash-colored Lexus RX 350.
