EFCC nabs 66 suspected online fraudsters in Lagos, Ogun
In a sting operation in the states of Ogun and Lagos, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has detained 66 alleged online scammers. This was announced in a statement released in Abuja on Friday by its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale.
According to Oyewale, 11 of the suspects were taken into custody on Thursday at Tulip Haven, Chevron, Lekki, Lagos State, while 55 were taken into custody on Wednesday at the K Hotel in Itori, in the Ewekoro neighborhood of Ogun.
He claimed that the accused' arrests followed the commission's acquisition of reliable and useful information about their alleged fraudulent online activity.
Six exotic automobiles, two locally produced weapons, one motorcycle, several cell phones and laptops, incriminating documents, and 89 unclaimed phones were among the things found among the suspects in Ogun, according to the commission's spokesman.
Oyewale added that among the 11 suspects detained in Lagos, the commission found one Range Rover, three Mercedes-Benz cars, two Lexus cars, and one Toyota car. Fifteen iPhones, two Android phones, a Nokia torch phone, and a MacBook were also found.
According to Oyewale, all of the accused had provided the panel with helpful information and would shortly face charges.
