Enugu Police arraigns woman who accused husband of defiling children

The arraignment of a woman who accused her husband of raping and defiling their two daughters has been formally confirmed by the Enugu State Police Command.

The woman, Mrs. Chisom Okonkwo, reported the incident to the police but was unable to substantiate her claims beyond a reasonable doubt, according to a statement made on Thursday by SP Daniel Ndukwe, the state police public relations officer.

According to Ndukwe, the couple's elderly kid told the police during the police investigation that their mother had instructed them to lie against their father and that their father had never done the crime for which he was accused in a written statement supported by video proof.

“The Enugu State Police Command, on October 25, 2025, received a complaint from Okonkwo Chisom (female, aged 29), lodged at the command’s Emene Police Division, alleging that her husband, Okonkwo Ozioma, had been defiling their two daughters, aged five and three years, and threatening to kill her if she disclosed it,” Ndukwe stated.

Investigations, however, showed that the accusations were untrue and deceptive. "Contrary to her claims, investigations revealed that the periods in 2024 and 2025 during which Chisom claimed the offenses occurred were the same times she had traveled alone with all the children to their hometown in Imo State."

“It further showed that, in two separate handwritten voluntary statements, their seven-year-old son exonerated his father and disclosed that their mother had coached him and his sisters to falsely accuse their father — a fact supported by video evidence,” Ndukwe added.

Okonkwo was charged with two counts of defamation and providing false information when he was hauled before the Enugu State Magistrate Court.  According to the police spokeswoman, the court granted her bail and postponed the matter for a later hearing.
