Federal government announced Thursday, Friday public holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr

In honor of Eid-el-Fitr, which marks the conclusion of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, the Federal Government has designated Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, to be public holidays.

On behalf of the Federal Government, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, delivered the statement.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Magdalene Ajani, the ministry's permanent secretary, sent Muslims a hearty congratulations on successfully completing the fasting period.

During the holy month of Ramadan, Tunji-Ojo exhorted Muslims to uphold the principles of love, charity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice.

Additionally, he urged Nigerians to pray for the nation's continuing peace, unity, and prosperity during the holiday season.

In addition to wishing Muslims a happy Eid-ul-Fitr, the minister urged people to celebrate sensibly and show compassion to those who are less fortunate.

The statement added, “The Federal Government remains committed to fostering national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.”
