Federal government bars motorcycles, tricycles on Lagos-Calabar coastal highway
"A ban on commercial motorcycles and tricycles on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway" has been declared by the Federal Ministry of Works.
Mr. Olufemi Dare, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, issued a statement on Sunday announcing the restriction, which goes into force this week.
The decision was made "to protect the newly constructed superhighway from misuse and deterioration," according to Dare.
He clarified that the actions were required to protect the route and guarantee its long-term viability.
Additionally, the Federal Controller issued a warning that trucks and articulated vehicles would no longer be allowed to park indiscriminately.
"The restriction applies to the coastal highway and all bridges across Lagos State," he stated.
The government also banned the "indiscriminate disposal of refuse along highway corridors" after declaring it to be undesirable.
Dare warned that criminals will face harsh enforcement measures as officials strive to maintain order.
He disclosed that signs indicating the restrictions were already placed along the highway.
To guarantee compliance, task force representatives would be stationed in key areas, Dare continued.
He hailed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a “world-class infrastructure” needed due maintenance and protection.
For the sake of public safety, the official urged all drivers to abide by the instructions.
