Federal government declares emergency on Suleja-Minna road construction

FG Terminates Contract and Declares Emergency on Suleja-Minna Road.  The current contract for the dualization of the Suleja-Minna road was terminated for non-performance over the weekend by Works Minister David Umahi, who also declared an emergency.

According to Umahi, President Bola Tinubu expressed worry over the road's terrible condition and ordered that immediate action be done to repair it in order to win back the trust of drivers.

He insisted that the failure to deliver the project on schedule and within specifications was the fault of the contractor, Messrs. Salini Nigeria Ltd.  He went on to say that the employment termination for non-performance was final.

Umahi, however, who also examined Section I of the federal road between Abuja, Kaduna, Zairea, and Kano, which is being built on continuously reinforced concrete pavement, expressed his satisfaction with the project's contractor, Infiouest International Limited, and the caliber of their work.

He was joined by Bello Goronyo, the ministry's junior minister; Onyekachi Nwebonyi, the Senate's deputy chief whip; Segun Sowunmi, who served as Atiku Abubakar's spokeswoman during the 2019 presidential campaign; and directors of many important Federal Ministry of Works units.

According to Umahi, the Federal Ministry of Works' decision to terminate the contract with Julius Berger Nigeria Ltd. because of cost disparities was supported by the current work.

According to a statement from Umahi's spokesperson, Uchenna Orji, he commended President Bola Tinubu's dedication to guaranteeing the project's timely and high-quality completion.
