Federal government to pay five-month wage award arrears
Plans to start paying the outstanding N35,000 wage award arrears owing to federal government officers have been announced by the Federal Government. The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation revealed this in a statement released in Abuja on Monday.
The remaining arrears would be paid in installments, with workers expected to get N35,000 per month for five months, according to a statement issued by Bawa Mokwa, the Director of Press and Public Relations.
The OAGF explained that the first tranche of the wage award arrears will be issued immediately following the April salary payment, even if the April 2025 salary would be paid separately.
“The wage award arrears would not be paid with the April 2025 salary; it will come immediately after the salary is paid,” the statement read.
In an effort to lessen the effects of economic changes, the Federal Government has previously paid out pay awards to federal employees for a period of five months. Five months' worth of arrears, however, were still owed.
With an emphasis on improving productivity and operational efficiency across ministries, departments, and agencies, the OAGF reaffirmed the government's commitment to properly following all agreements and rules pertaining to personnel welfare and compensation.
