Female drug trafficker slumps in court after sentence
Tope Ayanwale, a 34-year-old woman convicted on drug-related charges, passed out in court after the Federal High Court in Benin City, Edo State, sentenced her to three years in jail.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Edo State Command, which prosecuted her and others for unlawfully possessing illegal narcotics, was able to achieve her conviction.
Ayanwale was charged on March 24, 2027, with possessing 1.272 kilograms of cannabis sativa, 2.1 grams of methamphetamine, and 176 grams of tramadol. He was arraigned under charge number FHC/B/21c/2026.
In his ruling, Justice B. O. Quadiri gave her a sentence of three years in prison with the possibility of a N10 million fine.
Ayanwale collapsed within the courtroom shortly after the sentence was given, and she needed immediate medical assistance before she could be stabilized.
Since then, she has been placed under arrest to begin completing her sentence.
