As part of its strategy to encourage greener energy and lower travel costs, the Federal Government on Wednesday announced the delivery of the first batch of electric vehicles promised to public personnel.

Following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, Joseph Osanipin, Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council, revealed this.

According to Osanipin, the delivery signalled the start of the government's initiative to increase the nation's access to electric vehicles and build the infrastructure required to facilitate alternative-energy mobility.

He told journalists, “Today, you must have heard in the news that the first batch of the electric vehicle that the President promised civil servants was delivered today, and they are all electric vehicles.

“This is the beginning of more and more that will come.”

The head of NADDC also revealed that in order to promote the growth of an electric vehicle ecosystem, the government had installed electric vehicle infrastructure in roughly 16 universities nationwide.

He claimed that as expenditures in supporting infrastructure rose, the effects of government policy on electric vehicles and compressed natural gas will become more apparent.
