FG kicks off N10m support scheme for tertiary institution workers

The Federal Government has set up a loan fund to help staff of academic institutions.  The goal of the "Tertiary Institution Staff Support Fund" is to enhance the wellbeing and professional development of academic and non-academic staff members in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

All academic and non-academic staff will receive up to N10 million, or 33.3% of their total annual salary.

The permissible applications include medical aid, transportation, and microbusiness activities such as raising chickens.  This was disclosed in a statement released on Sunday by Folasade Boriowo, the Federal Ministry of Education's Director of Press.

According to the release, the concept was presented at a high-level stakeholder engagement meeting that took place in Abuja.

According to a comment from Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, the fund was a component of the administration's larger initiative to reposition higher education in the nation.

“We are ensuring that our education workforce is supported to live well, grow professionally, and continue contributing meaningfully to institutional excellence.

“TISSF is a welfare-focused loan scheme that promotes financial stability, improves quality of life, and supports career advancement for staff across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.”
