FG sacks eight immigration officers over misconduct
Eight Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) personnel were fired by the federal government for allegedly engaging in a number of wrongdoings.
Five officers were also forced to retire, eight others had their levels lowered, and two junior employees were fired from the Service for committing crimes like kidnapping, theft, and unlawful gun ownership.
Akinsola Akinlabi, the NIS's public relations officer, stated in a statement that the government's move was subject to the recommendations of the Disciplinary and General-Purpose Committee of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), which convened on July 11, 2025.
The announcement revealed that 31 incidents involving NIS officers and employees were examined by the Board's disciplinary committee.
Akinlabi, an Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, stated, “Eight officers were dismissed from service for serious misconduct and violation of regulations. In addition, five officers were compulsorily retired for offences bordering on misconduct, while eight officers were demoted by one rank.”
He said that the Board had examined the appeal of the dismissal of two officers but had dismissed it for lack of merit, and that five officers had received written warning letters for misconduct.
He added: “One officer is to be reinstated following a successful appeal, while the Board exonerated two officers against charges preferred against them.”
