FG to shut Ijora-Marine Bridge in Lagos for 21 days
In order to perform necessary repairs, the Federal Government has declared that the Ijora-Marine Bridge in Apapa, Lagos, will be closed for 21 days starting on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
The Federal Ministry of Works announced in a press release on Tuesday that the closure would impact both complete and partial portions of the bridge and start at 7:00 a.m.
The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Olukorede Kesha, said in the statement that the initiative is targeted at strengthening road safety and improving the driving experience for motorists.
“This critical project involves lifting the entire bridge deck to replace the faulty bearings underneath, among other essential repair works. This will ensure a smoother and safer roadway,” Kesha explained.
In order to limit interruptions, the ministry also gave the public the assurance that thorough preparations and management techniques for traffic diversion had been implemented.
“Appropriate signage and traffic control measures will be in place to guide drivers and pedestrians,” the statement added.
It has been recommended that locals, commuters, and business owners in the impacted areas make appropriate plans during the closure.
The government made a plea for cooperation and understanding from the public while realising the potential difficulty the project may create.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the public’s patience as we work to improve our infrastructure,” Kesha said.
After the repairs are finished, the bridge should reopen on June 8, 2025.
